PARKING LOTS ARE TOO SMALL IN SINGAPORE?
After researching, my group have came out with a few reasons to why parking lots in Singapore are too small.
Firstly, Singapore is one of the smallest counties in the world, due to that we have limited space to build car parks and parking spaces. This will strongly influence the sizes of the parking lots and spaces , as we have many different areas to develop at the same time. ( Leisure & entertainment , business blocks etc...)
Secondly, There are too many different types of cars, some are too wide and long. Therefore, drivers have to take up more then 1 parking lots, this will reduce the amount of space other drivers can or left to park with. Imagine , there are too many bigger cars in Singapore and the everyone have to take up more then 1 parking spaces? If there is 50 parking lots in a place, only 25 cars could be parked at one time.
Next, There are too many cars in Singapore, from a Singapore transport Statistic chart, We have discovered that cars in Singapore are increasing over the years. Too many demands for cars, will also means demands for parking lots will increase. Having unlimited space, we only can resort to having parking lots and spaces to be of average or smaller sizings.
Lastly, there will be several inconsiderate or inexperience drivers, whom may care about their own vehicle more. Due to this, they may occupy more then 1 parking lot.
This may also be a key factor to why parking lots are small.

In Singapore, we have these bicycle racks that are located near the MRT stations island wide. The design and concept of this bicycle racks are very simple and it saves a lot of space. User using this bicycle racks would just have to pull this retractable metal racks outward, it will then be able to be pressed downwards 45 degrees down to the floor. User then have to push their bicycles up these racks and retract the bicycle back onto the bicycle rack.
This concept, can and maybe a solution for parking lots being too small in Singapore. Using an elevated lift with the combination of the mechanism of this bicycle racks, it could be a good idea for solving the problem. Driver would have to park their vehicles onto the these automated car park lot, that has a retractable base in which will help move the car in and out of the lift, after parking the vehicles in, the driver proceeds to leave the car and press for the door to close. Afterwards , the parking computer system will check for the next available parking lot and bring vehicle up to the level, which will then the automated car " racks" will retract the car inwards to the lot.

this case study, I have discovered an entry that was posted on to a website ,
which has a witness of an accident in a parking lot of Singapore. In a open air
car park, Serangoon North, a car was seen to have crashed into two parked
stationary cars. After crashing into the two stationary cars, it was said that
the driver had fled the scene. This may have been an issue of having a small
parking lot, as if the parking lot was spacious or was bigger in space then the
accident would not have happened.
Personally, I feel that it is due to the limited space between the lots and possibly the mistake of the driver too. If performed slowly parking in a small space is manageable.

Source 2 : Car Park Too Small In Certain Places ?
It was witnessed that a car in Singapore at Golden Mile Complex had taken more than 1 parking lots, but afterwards it was said that Golden Mile Complex are indeed relatively small as the building was built 40 years ago, but thought that it should not be a excuse to take up two lots.
Is parking lots really too small in Singapore? Are some cars in Singapore too big for the parking lots? Are parking lots only small in certain area ?

The minimum dimensions required of a parking
stalls sizes in Singapore ,are 4800mm x 2400mm for the normal angled parking
and 5400 mm x 2400mm for parallel parking. If there is any obstruction, the
parking stall will be subjected to changes depending on situation.
As quoted , "When there is an object or obstruction, adjacent to a stall located within the middle 2800mm of the parking length, the parking stall shall be widened. If the obstruction is on one side, the minimum stall width shall be 2700mm. If the obstruction is on both sides, then the minimum stall width shall be 3000mm. Any large element above 175mm such as columns, walls or ducts constitutes an obstruction."

Empathizing ( Parking Lots Too Small)
The empathizing cases, usually includes the questions Why ? Where? Who ? How? . These questions are usually the key factors in which, we can see how and what's the problem is and can we prevent or troubleshoot it?
Scenario 1 :
I'm a construction supervisor , I usually drive to work at 9am in the morning and I have to reach my work place which is at Sembawang at 10am. I drive a Honda Urban SUV , and I usually have a hard time to find a suitable lot that is able to fit my car in , as the lots are usually just right for the size of my car. I have to find parking lots, that have vacant spaces beside it.
Scenario 2:
I'm a banker working in the CBD district of Singapore. I drive to work every morning, but I have an issue with finding parking lots in the morning. Due to the many cars in the morning, I have to wait very patiently to get a lot. I realize, that the parking lots may or may not be too small, as while waiting for my turn to park, I usually see people taking a long time to get their vehicle parked.

I go around the whole of Singapore, and parking is hard for me as I feel that the parking lots in Singapore may or may not be too small. It usually takes me 10-15 minutes to park , as to ensure the safety of my love ones. Having to avoid the surrounding area, and not to damage my or the cars beside me.
